TV? Hmmm

TV is considered to be an enjoyable medium of entertainment. TV is also considered to be a form of mindless entertainment that is used only to promote worthless and evil advertisements. I’m going to have to say that I’m 50-50 on that. I don’t despise advertisements. They have become a form of entertainment themselves with the backlash and commentary going on between some certain cell phone service and car insurance providers . . . However, it does become tiring to just watch five minutes of a show—and yet, another commercial comes on.

I usually avoid watching TV mainly because the quality of the shows has dropped so much in recent years. A lot of them are just the same recycled plot lines with new and terrible actors. Don’t even get me started on “reality” TV shows. How can a TV show possibly show someone’s “real” personality with only an hour of screentime? Yeah . . . um, no. Although there are actual decent shows that do take consideration into developing solid characters such as House. I’ve just recently started watching it and it’s a captivating show. However, I’m not going to avidly spend hours in front of the TV just because I like a character. I usually only watch it when I feel like doing something brain numbing, but is more effective than zoning out.

It all boils down to TV is a good escape from reality (ridiculous reality TV shows included), the commercials can be entertaining albeit annoying, and it’s a relaxing activity. However, sometimes you’ve just got to flip the switch and say ‘no.’
